Being “Green” isn’t just about saving energy and the environment; it also involves being socially responsible. The Tower Companies believes in a triple bottom line approach to doing business, which includes making decisions based on social, environmental, and economic benefits. There is a strong business case for being socially responsible because it can have a positive impact on workspace productivity, building occupant happiness, brand differentiation, employee retention and attraction, reducing operating costs and increasing the bottom line.
Our CSR initiatives focus on the following:
According to the EPA, building in the United States accounts for approximately 40 % of total energy usage and green house gas emissions (GHG). Since our founding in 1947, The Tower Companies has had a commitment to care for and be responsible for the buildings we, build, own and manage. And, since before 2000, we have had a serious commitment to our Sustainability strategy -- to make our buildings operate as efficiently as possible by using tools such as US Green Building Council LEED® criteria, EPA Energy Star® and Energy Management Systems, and client education, outreach and engagement.
Green building starts with efficient use of resources, such as site selection, construction and operation. This all affects the environment – today and for generations to come. But, The Tower Companies has added another consideration to their requirements: people. The owners are personally engaged – and therefore, our company-wide approach includes: how individuals are impacted by the spaces they occupy at any given moment in their day. How they feel. Are they inspired? What puts people in harmony with their surroundings? How effective are they – not just as employees, but also, as whole human beings.
The Tower Companies believes in giving back to the community. We accomplish this mission by supporting local and national academic, civic, business and non-profit organizations through sponsorships, charitable giving, and pro bono work on boards and committees, as well as all-staff, hands-on volunteerism in school, park and other events annually and throughout the year.
